Write with your Words

I haven't wanted to write on here much. I'm not sure why and it's no offense to all of you lovely people, but maybe life is moving too fast. Online dating, giving away books, trying to figure what is my next book, my day job, rent, bills, potentially getting promoted and blah blah blah.

Here are some topics I have pending for you.
1. The Beat Goes On
2. Online Dating Part Deux
3. TSA
4. Chapter from a lost story
5. ...the rest aren't started

Motivation is lacking. I'm not thriving in my creativity. Not sure why. I have SO much material I can use. But I don't want to write it? Very unlike me. Therefore, I'm going to invite people to come write on here. Their words and insight will continue on what I aim to do. Enlighten you about what's right under your nose.
I'm listening to "Soldier" by Gavin Degraw (best lyrics). As much as I sometimes feel like a failure (and I do), I often match or double those moments with times of amazement by my accomplishments. Fortunately I also have friends who look to accomplish their hopes and dreams to the highest degree.

Last night one of my friends succeeded in what I'd think was one of her highest goals. I personally believe its definitely only the beginning.  And maybe that's something we sometimes forget. For example,  I sent my books to an employee at Scholastic a couple of weeks ago. That was one of the biggest moments for me because I had Scholastic on the top of my list of places I wanted my books to be distributed. And voila, an opportunity presented itself after years of going to networking events. It was unreal! But then I laid back and acted as if I was done. What is that?? There is still more to do. No one is banging on my door. Sallie Mae isn't paid off. And most importantly, my message has not been heard by the world. Let alone the country. So I have work to do.

As I've said, I have friends who are just as opposed to being complacent as I am. Therefore, those are the type of people I want to share this space with to inspire and inform all of you. This is a very exciting and necessary change. There will be a political aspect, hopefully a venturing into the real world aspect, and something fun and girly for my teenie boppers out there. 2014 entries are going to be jocund (my word of the day).

Get your butt moving.

#ProjectMoveOut : Framily

I love my biological family. Family's love is like a river. Everflowing. Neverending. Unconditional. Well some may beg to differ. Besides that, unconditional.

With that said, I have another family. The family that has been with me through the toughest times which I've protected my biological family from (Although if they ever really wanted to know, I'd probably spill). This family is relatively fresh and new to being a family. For they have mainly been individuals for some time now. So we still are adjusting to how this works. Many of you 20-something year olds know exactly where I'm going with this. Yes, I am talking about Framily.

What is Framily? Simply its your friend family. They can look at you and know exactly what's wrong. Will let you cuddle with them and cry in their arms while their half asleep. They're the ones you get out of bed for after you've called it a night, to sit in Dunkin Donuts to let them vent. Your framily let's you be you with the guidelines of trying to keep you sane or practical.

Of course I love my blood family and have grown in many relationships with many relatives since my 20's started; but for some reason, there is still no comparison to my framily. They have seen the ugliest and saddest sides of me. When I hide things from them, I must be extremely ashamed. Somehow, someway they always know how to bring me back to reality or level ground. This is essential for us millenials. Without this new evolved connection, we could be aimlessly going through life. Even more.

P.S. No this does not mean I love one more than the other. Stop it.

Business Woman Wannabe

The good outdoors is supposed to fresh and enlightening. For me its more like stress but I can breathe a little better.

As I have said before, I want to be honest with my followers. Well... There are five of those but I meant more so the page viewers I get everyday (By the way, yesterday there were A LOT).

Yes, I am a business woman but many times I feel like I am a Business Woman Wannabe. This means I'm into the idea of running my business but in the end of the day "Am I capable?" is the pressing question. I wannabe the best boss, I wannabe the best publicist, I wannabe the best writer (well maybe not grammatically). Either way, I wannabe a lot. So does that make me a wannabe or the actual thing?

Today I went to Pennsylvania to visit both of my stores. Yes, MY stores. I own both. YES, I am only in my early-mid twenties. No, I don't have a boyfriend/husband. Well depends on who you ask. Anyway, I went and met my newest employee. She's very peppy and is a bundle of bubble wrap. Exactly the type of girl I wanted. My Milford branch/location has a great vibe that customers love and keep coming back for without them even realizing. And I wanted to keep that atmosphere by hiring a personality like the New Girl's.

Then I continued my day by venturing out to the Hawley branch/location. The building it's in is stunning. And  more importantly so was the store. I am very pleased. :)

But as I sat down and thought about the behind the scene issues we are having, I critically thought about what I could do to make it all better. As today went by, I have developed really good ideas to aware the area about the launch of this new store. Because trust me, if they knew, they would come. It's all about innovative publicity and promotion, which is what I am good at. Or am I? This brings me back to me being a wannabe.

I write, I manage, I strategize but what I am not making currently is a salary. And those who know me, I am a woman with a plan ALWAYS. So to be a freelance writer or marketing strategist, it's hard for me. The hard part is not fixating on the fact that you're not sure if 3 months from now, you'll have enough money to live off of.  In my mind, that is what freelancers do. That's what entrepreneurs do. But then there is the excitement of just getting that light bulb over your head and then trying the idea and then the idea ACTUALLY working.

Am I a Business Woman? Literally, Yes. I own a business, run a business, I am about business. But I wannabe more. My fear is that everything will stop here and never progress further, which I can not allow myself to dwell on. For my business' sake, I need to believe in it because people believed in me. I have the ideas, I have the strength and I have the heart to make these businesses thrive. I think I just had to write all this to remind myself of that.

Here's to the new year of my being vulnerable.

If you're an entrepreneur, remind yourself that you would have never started this if you couldn't follow through.

Am I happy at work?

Many times do people ponder this. Well more so stress themselves out by yelling, "I hate my job!". Cause lets face it, if you do... you just know.

In my life, I haven't had a job I've hated quite yet. Usually, when I feel the resentment and constant frustration coming along, I most likely will be leaving it shortly. Homie don't play that. Misery is not worth any money amount. Life is about living and if I am consumed in a job that frustrates me.. I might as well not be living.

I understand that this is not practical for many people but I'm not most people. Although I will say, I would work in a factory to make ends meet. But as soon as I HATE that job, I'm searching elsewhere. Then again, lets be real... if I'm working at a factory, I am going to be searching for a new job as they shake my hand saying I have the factory job. But back to my point, being happy at your job is important. Why? Cause you spend most of your hours and days working. So why be miserable?

Motivation & Productivity work hand at hand for all you managers out there. It's importante to make sure your employees feel valued and motivated. If you notice, most times productivity drops when those two are failed. Peter Drucker speaks about this in one of the books I've read by him. And I believe A LOT of managers don't see the direct connection work and contentment have. Employees not happy, soon your customers won't as well. And that means no money for you, which is VERY unfortunate. Mainly cause this all could have been prevented if you would have paid attention. In my opinion, many very large companies like Google or Twitter have adapted to this knowledge by giving their employees what they want but remembering work has to be done. And with that, they give them what they want but motivate them by showing "If you want this, we all need to keep doing...". Smart.

I am currently slowly be surely very hating my 9 to 5 job (last day Thursday). But I believe in always working for someone else. I think as a manager, this gives you an advantage of always staying humble and always advancing. You have the perspective of a manager and an employee always. For example, I understand how upsetting it is to have a late or skipped paycheck. Therefore, why would I pretend its no biggie for an employee of mine? This keeps things in perspective. My biggest tip, in life. (Not to mention, you will keep yourself on a better schedule. Keep yourself accountable of deadlines more efficiently for your own business. Because its not just your work that needs to be done but someone else's and you have to answer to them. Answering to someone else will always keep you more in line than just answering to yourself. To be continued...)

Employees who are in a rut at work, maybe you should change your way of thinking. Trying this may be just what you need at a deadbeat job. A book called Who Moved My Cheese taught me that. Its about the group but in the end you can only control yourself. Be Prepared for things. Don't be passive. Be smart instead. I think this book encouraged me most to think critically not only when reading literature or watching movies but also when I observe my surroundings/environment. There are different types of people in this world and I know what type of person I want to be, do you?

I may revisit this topic. I surprisingly had a lot to say. But I thought this would be a nice beginning.
