Day 1: Fashion's Night Out (FNO)

Last Night was Fashion's Night Out (FNO) and boy did it know how to party. Here's a little history.

Fashion's Night Out is a global initiative, sponsored by Vogue and the CFDA[1] The first event began in 2009, it was held in New York. In 2010 the event will be held in Australia,BrazilChinaLondonParisBerlinGreeceIndiaMilanPortugalRussiaSpainSouth KoreaTaiwan and Turkey. It is thought that Karl Lagerfeld will be attending the Fashion's Night Out event in New York as well as New York Fashion Week[2] The Fashion's Night Out 2010 will be run by fifteen different editions of Vogue magazine. [3]
Fashion's Night Out began in 2009 as a means to encourage consumers to shop and support the fashion industry during the tough economic climate. [4] The event has expanded to 16 countries in 2010 and will occur over the span of eight days to maximize traffic in individual retail environment. [5]

Here are some highlights of my night.

FNO Extravaganza- There is where RC3 and I saw our girl from last season Pamela Quinzi with her Kilame collection. Then saw one of my admired jewelry company Stella & Dot. Then there was Dream Heels and Eye of JA which were pleasant surprises to be introduced to and so much more.

Meatpacking District- As readers who follow me know by now, I love being in the meatpacking district. I got a tiny taste of it my first ever FNO and ever since then its become my creative habitat. I stand on the high line for hours (literally) just thinking/brainstorming. Last Night we ran into Maybelline and QVC presentations which were popping. Passed by the store of my favorite designer (the person herself). Although I do admire her designs) Diane von Furstenburg (DVF). She had a ton of ladies waiting to get inside.

 - While at QVC, I suddenly realized I wasn't twitter which for someone who is a social media marketer/ PR girl, that was forbidden. So I stepped to the side to start tweeting what was going on. All of a sudden there was a handful of girls yelling "Buy Less Choose Well". It was a bit intense especially when a security guy got yelled at for allowing them to come in. Felt bad for the guy. And later on that night I saw a response from their twitter (look below). Their site explained a bit more of why they were out there.Check it out.

Tips: Don't get caught up in the glitz and glam. If you're at Fashion Week for business, focus on business. Not the freebies, booze, celebrities and spending. Being friendly and humble will also get you a long way. For two seasons I was under the impression that everyone was a snob, when in fact its just a myth and stereotype. Although, the snobbiest people I've met thus far are the ones that don't matter (sorry but not sorry).

There is so much I could share about the night but I have some guest bloggers who are going to share more about their experiences once Fashion Week is over. Therefore sign up for my newsletter so you don't miss out (subscription located above).
