Social Media: YouTube Celebs

In my last post about YouTube, I mentioned this marketing campaign that's going on. Michelle Phan, Rosanna Pansino, and Bethany Mota are three girls paving the way for other rising YouTube stars. But my question is why these girls? There are plenty of other YouTube users with breathtaking numbers of subscribers and views. Many people don't even realize these ads have 3 different girls in them because they look so similar. They could've thrown in Jenna Marbles and had a blonde at least. Or a boy! My goodness. Who came up with this? And more importantly, am I the only one talking about this??

Jezabel.com has a post about the YouTube personalities that aren't known but have millions of teen views. I had no idea who these boys where, nor did I care. That doesn't matter though. What matters is that millions of people do. How does that even happen? Well the YouTube cute, brunette, petite crew gave a few tips on Bloomberg News about some of their success secrets. Will they work for you? Hmm...? Well it got Ms. Mota her very own line with Aeropostale. Wow. Phan over 1 Billion views in total for all her videos combined. ...Dag, I chose the wrong social outlet. I should've been making videos instead of blogs this whole time.

I don't think people realize just how monumental this is. Just like a relationship isn't real unless it's on facebook, now you're not a real celebrity unless you've made it on YouTube. It doesn't matter what movie you were in or how many Grammy's you've won. It's slowly becoming more and more about social media (as a whole). It's a little scary to think that we the people made this shift. This was minimal influence from the media or the higher powers who want to make more money. For the most part, the consumers of the world told the marketers and business owners worlwide who's the boss. Granted yes we were all influenced by what we saw on television shows and movies or in music videos (oh wait, who watches those anymore) or friends. The fact of the matter is, without us, there would be no push for companies to invest in Social Media Managers (THANK YOU world!). And now, you can become more famous than the celebrities we knew and loved growing up, just from your home computer. Buhnanas.

If I had to choose what people I'd want to see make it big on YouTube, I'd say:

Yondel Benjamin- She's definitely got something. I may not wear wigs but the girl gets me interested in them. I don't know why, I don't know how but I love her.

My Godsons- They don't have a YouTube channel, but their mother and I have been talking about it. They are little performers and entertain us all the time. Everything from singing, dancing to dj masters.

Lisa DeLarios- We work together at our day job, but she's also a comedian. Lisa has lots of jokes and stories to tell. I think the world should be ready to see them at the click of a button.

Who are your picks?
